Speed Matters More Than You Think
Customers who request an estimate are ready to make a decision. If you take a week to send it, they have already moved on to someone faster.
The contractors who close the most deals are the ones who send estimates within 24 hours - sometimes the same day. You do not need to be perfect. You need to be fast.
Be Specific About Scope
Vague estimates create problems. "Bathroom renovation" tells the customer nothing about what is included. Does it include the tile? The fixtures? The plumbing behind the wall?
A clear scope of work protects you from scope creep and gives the customer confidence that you understand the project. List what is included and - just as importantly - what is not included.
Make It Easy to Say Yes
If your estimate requires the customer to print, sign, scan, and email back, you are adding friction. Every extra step between "I like this" and "let us get started" costs you closed deals.
Digital estimates with one-click approval and e-signatures remove that friction. Make it as easy as possible for the customer to say yes.
Follow Up on Every Estimate
Sending an estimate and waiting is not a strategy. About 60 percent of estimates need at least one follow-up before the customer makes a decision.
A simple check-in two or three days after sending the estimate shows you care and keeps you top of mind. Something like, "Just checking if you had any questions about the estimate" works perfectly.
Include Your Value, Not Just Your Price
An estimate should do more than list numbers. It should remind the customer why you are the right choice. Include your warranty, your experience, your insurance, and what makes working with you different.
This context helps justify your price and gives the customer reasons to choose you over a competitor who just sent a number on a napkin.
